Family Evening Sail

There were moderate winds kicking up a light chop but after unfurling the jib we plowed through the waves. We sailed straight out on west side of the channel rounded a buoy and sailed back up the east side of the channel to the mooring. Just a relaxing evening sail!

First Team Practice

Tonight’s goal was to re-acquaint everyone with Nauti-Dog. Sky handled the jib while Mark was at the helm. We also explored some the different instrument features but soon realized that we would need the manual. This time we lowered the mainsail at the mooring which made it whole lot easier. Sailed out tacking a few time and surfed back in.

Early morning clean up

Took the dog for walk along the harbor this morning and decided to pick up some trash along the way. Totaled 3 small bags trash with 2 small bags of recyclables (mainly plastic water bottles).

Packed up all the gear headed to Nauti-Dog. “Insert the card with the downloaded charts into your compatible Raymarine chart plotter. In the chart screen, select Menu > Presentation > Chart Selection. This will show the list of available charts. Select your downloaded chart to open it.” Then nothing…. Back shore and back to the house to start “Troubleshooting: ....Re-download your chart(s).” Returned back to Nauti-Dog and plugged the MicroSD back into the plotter we had charts!

5. Initialized the Micro SD card by inserting it into plotter and power it on

6. I thought I was smart by bring my laptop to the docks but the download was really really slow

Digital Charts

Going to give the Raymarine Lighthouse Charts a try. They are $9.99 for a 1 year subscription.

1. Pick your chart type and area
2. Create an Raymarine account
3. Pay Raymarine
4. Then learn you need to “initialize” a Micro SD card

The MicroSD card needs to be initialized in the plotter. So the means a trip out to Nauti-Dog.

Gale Winds

Under a gale warning I ventured out to Nauti-Dog to finish the instrument install and seal around the mast/deck. I have tried using silicone in the past but that eventually dried-up and had to be scraped off the mast. This year I am trying wax. If it works in residential plumbing maybe it will work on a boat? After I sealed around the mast I wrapped the base in white duct tape. Typical the duct tape only lasts for 1 or 2 seasons and it is cheap enough.
